Volunteer Positions Available for the Mahal 3 Art Show

UBC Philippine Studies Series is looking for volunteers to help us with our upcoming art show on June 8 and 9.

Mahal 3: Packing & Unpacking Balikbayan Box Flows is an art exhibit “unpacking” the personal and community narratives of Filipinos in Vancouver through the gifts they send back to friends and family. We are displaying an eclectic assortment of objects along with their photos, and written or video-recorded stories about them, then they will be shipped to the Philippines where the recipients will collect their gifts.

We’re looking for volunteers that will help us make this fun, unique, community-driven art exhibit a success. There are several positions available:

(1) Volunteer Photographer

  • Activities: Photographs art objects, photos to be displayed at the art exhibit. Takes pictures of the art show opening on the evening of Friday, June 8
  • Benefits: Reference letter (upon request), opportunity for photographs to be on display at an art exhibit, free refreshments, meet new people, free invite to an art show
  • Number of volunteers required: 1
  • Position Dates: From May 28 to June 8
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 12 hours, taking place on weekday and/or weekend evenings
  • Work Location: 827 E32nd Avenue, Vancouver

(2) Event Assistants

  • Activities: Display and take down art objects, photos, and signage. We are open to your ideas on how we can use our gallery space creatively
  • Benefits: Reference letter (upon request), gain experience in working as part of a team, free refreshments, meet new people, free invite to an art show
  • Number of volunteers required: 2-3
  • Position Dates: Thursday June 7, Friday June 8 and Monday June 18
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 12 hours, taking place on weekday afternoons
  • Work Location: Yactac Gallery, 7206 Ontario Street, Vancouver
