The UBC Philippine Studies Series is proud to host “A Motion to Stillness”–an evening of modern meditative dub and ambient music, in partnership with the UBC Liu Institute for Global Issues and Silent Season Records, showcasing some of the West Coast’s finest Dub purveyors.
Time: Friday, December 21, 7:00 – 10:00 pm
Location: UBC Liu Institute for Global Issues, 6476 NW Marine Drive, Vancouver
Tickets: Admission is free but seats are limited
Taking inspiration from both external nature as well the inner landscapes of the psyche, we present sound sculptures that evoke environments and atmospheres – both familiar and unknown – that transport the listeners to a unified field of shared human experience: a communal that transcends verbal language and cultural differences in its ability to instill a silent state of Oneness.
We deploy sound – not just music – as a more precise and vastly more plastic mode of communication to share universal impressions and ideas both ancient and new.
Schedule:
- 7:00pm – SKRSINTL (Digitalis, TRANSMOLECULAR)
- 7:45pm – wzrdryAV (Silent Season, TRANSMOLECULAR)
- 8:30pm – Segue (Silent Season, Tokyo Droning, Databloem)
- 9:15pm – Jamie McCue (Silent Season)
